Scott L. Painter

Research Scientist

Scott Painter is a subsurface flow and reactive transport modeler in the Climate Change Science Institute and the Environmental Sciences Division at ORNL. His current research interests include the thermal hydrology of thawing permafrost, integrated surface/subsurface hydrology at the catchment scale, fractured rock hydrology, contaminant transport in the subsurface, and nuclear waste disposal. He is author or co-author of more than 60 journal articles. 

Prior to joining ORNL in 2014, Scott had positions with the Computational Earth Sciences Group at Los Alamos National Laboratory (2010-2014), Southwest Research Institute (1998-2012), CSIRO Australia (1993-1998), and the Australian National University (1990-1993). He received his PhD in nuclear engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1990.
