Chad A. Steed
Dr. Chad A. Steed is a Visual Analytics Researcher in the Computational Data Analytics Group at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He holds a Ph.D. (2008) degree in computer science from Mississippi State University, where he studied visualization and computer graphics. He also received a B.S. (1999) degree in software engineering and a M.S. (2004) degree in hydrographic science from the University of Southern Mississippi. Before joining the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 2010, Dr. Steed worked nine years as a computer scientist for the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory at Stennis Space Center, MS.
Dr. Steed's research has spanned a range of topics including visual analytics and interactive interfaces, scientific and information visualization, text mining, social media, knowledge discovery, database design, geoscientific data analytics, and web application development. His current focus is on the formulation and practical application of extreme scale visual analytics techniques that combine inferential, automated analytics with interactive, multivariate visualization techniques to enhance cognition and decision support. His research has been funded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), Department of Energy (DOE), Space and Naval Warfare Command (SPAWAR), Office of Naval Research (ONR), and the Naval Research Laboratory. He has over 50 research publications, 2 patents (1 pending), and he has served as a reviewer for several journals, conferences, and panels.
